Welcome to Table Salt Games!

And so it begins... (Ah, good one, first post on this blog is a cliche. Excellent.)

This is a gaming blog. I will not call it a video game blog since this blog will cover much more than just video games. This blog will primarily focus on video game information, rumors, reviews and strategies but I will also be talking about board games, card games, casual games, etc. I'll even throw in some videos I find online that are particularly cool. And while I will try to update this blog everyday, I will have weekly segments on a certain topic, with one of those segments starting today. So be sure to check back often; everyday there will be something new.

Let me start by introducing myself. I always feel that is important to know who is behind the writing, so you know what kind of slant (if any) the story has.

My name is Richard Rodriguez; I am currently a junior in New York University and I am studying video game research and journalism (hence this blog). The blog is personal however, I am not doing this for a class and it is by no means restricted to NYU students or college students. So anyone can read this and enjoy it (hopefully).

In terms of video games, I do have a bit of a bias, I must say. I would not say I am a fanboy of a certain company or system, but I have always enjoyed Nintendo games and systems above all of the other systems I have played. However, this does not mean I hate or have hated Sony, Microsoft or Sega. Of the next-gen systems, I currently own a Wii and a PS3. Plenty of my friends have Xbox360's however, so reviews will cover all of the systems; do not worry Xbox owners. So when I write reviews or talk about certain systems, know in the back of your mind where I'm coming from. I will always try to write objectively, but hey, I'm human and I have interests. I'd rather be honest to my audience than feign an objective mindset. If you feel I'm being unfair in an entry, comment on it and let me know. Heck, you can even bash my review. All I ask is that you back up your facts and opinions and engage in a dialogue.

I am also President of PLAY: The Games Club at New York University. If anything can be called a game in any form, chances are we have played it, or we would love to try it out. We have weekly meetings and a whole lot of fun but I won't dwell on the club that much in this blog. If you want more information about the club check out the Facebook group here.

Enough about me. I've probably bored you already. Hey, introductions need to get done, so deal with it. :-P

You're also probably wondering why this blog is called Table Salt Games. And if you weren't thinking about it, chances are you are thinking about it now. I couldn't think of a good name for the blog so my friend Liam (I promised him a shout-out) said to just call it Table Salt. And well, I liked that idea; it was random and sounded pretty cool. I added "games" at the end, so you know what the blog is about. Table Salt is a little misleading, I know. But I like it.

So that's it for the preliminary stuff. The juicy stuff will come with other entries. I hope you all enjoy the blog and read it religiously. And comment please! If you want me to talk about a certain game or if you want to debate with me on this site just go ahead and do it! If you write something really insightful I'll publish it on the blog and give you full credit of course. I'll also respond to all the comments, if time allows. Thank you for reading!
